Grab The Tiger By The Tail

In doing my research for this blog, I decided to encourage my readers to make “going green” a New Years Resolution.  Since animals are so important to ancient cultures and often hold hidden meanings, I decided to check to see what animal represents this year in the Chinese New Year.  As it turns out it is the year of the tiger.

There has been a very old saying, take the tiger by the tail.  My first thought was great this is a great saying to go with my green idea. Let’s grab that tiger by the tail and run with the idea.  But being the researcher I am, I decided to look up the meaning of that expression and was amazed at what it really meant.

1.  One definition is to  “take the chance”  or run the risk.

2. Something too difficult to manage or cope with

3 You’ve taken up a position which you thought would give you control but in fact is going to be very difficult or dangerous to escape from.

So grabbing the tiger by the tail isn’t such a great going green advice. Going green, doesn’t involve taking chances, it simply means learning the reasons why we need to live a greener lifestyle and what steps we plan to take to achieve that goal.

It isn’t difficult to manage.  In fact going green can be quite easy.  How hard is it to turn off the faucet while you are brushing your teeth or shaving in order to save hundreds of gallons of water?

Going green isn’t dangerous. In fact not going green and continually exposing yourself to toxic chemicals is dangerous. And why would anyone in their right mind go from living a healthy green lifestyle back to living a life full of pollution, waste and nasty chemicals?  It would certainly be easy to do if you so choose, by again, WHY?
