Is There Junk in/on Your Trunk?
What many people don’t think about is the fact that added weight in a car such as junk in the trunk, cuts down on fuel consumption. It has been estimated that every hundred pounds of weight in an automobile cuts down on fuel MPG by as much as 2 %.
Years ago, cars were monstrous. Huge tail fins, heavy chrome and and the use of heavy metal for the construction, made those cars gas guzzlers like you wouldn’t believe. Over the years auto manufacturers have pulled all the stops in an effort to make modern automobiles lighter in order to improve fuel consumption.
As a going green tip, clean out the trunk of your car to save money and save fuel. But would you like some going green advice on how to save even more on fuel? Something that many people don’t think about as another source of added weight in an automobile is the extra junk on YOUR trunk.
If you are 50 pounds overweight, your automobiles fuel consumption is cut by 1%. If you have spouse that is equally overweight, now you are adding 2% less fuel economy. If you hang out with obese friends, or have allowed your children to become obese, you are losing money hand over foot, every time you drive your automobile. 1 or 2 % doesn’t sound like a lot, but you could save 3-5 cent a gallon, which over the course of time will add up.
