When the majority of us think about the damage being done to the environment we typically start pointing fingers at big industries. Now, it is true that they are doing more harm than good in terms of our environment, but the truth is that we, as most people, are also doing our share of damage.

In order to realize how  you need to do your part to save the environment, you should first know precisely what you are doing to harm it - even if you aren't a giant industry. The truth is that plenty of the harm being done to the environment is not so much from big industries as it is from a world full of people who do very little to conserve non-renewable resources. These resources come from the earth, and in the process of gaining those resources, the earth is being destroyed.

What this means is that just about every time you drive your car or truck, you are negatively affecting the environment. First off, the car actually pollutes the atmosphere, and second the resources required to make that car run come from the earth (oil, water, and gasoline).

Each and every time you make use of an aerosol spray, you are doing harm to the environment. Aerosol's contain CFC's, or greenhouse gases known as chlorofluorocarbons. This is being linked to changes in our climate by trapping large amounts of heat.

Each time you write a letter on paper, or make out your grocery list, you are also doing harm to the environment. Paper comes from trees, and many people today look at trees as renewable resources, simply because you can normally plant more trees. The fact is that we are cutting those trees down faster than we are replacing them.

If you are a smoker, the same is true every single time you light up a cigarette, except smoking a cigarette causes a much greater harm to the environment much greater than does generating that grocery list.

You also may assume that you are currently doing your part in saving the environment, because you have a lovely lawn, trees and hedges, which are perfectly trimmed. But when you fire up one of those gasoline powered lawn devices, you are harming the environment.

The ways that you are probably doing more harm than good go on and on. In actuality, if you brought a specialist into your residence for a day and wanted to know what you were doing to harm the environment, they would more than likely tell you that everything that you were doing was wrong!

If that is the situation, how can you possibly change your evil eco-nonfriendly destroying ways? Well the majority of us are not eager to give up the creaturecomforts in life, and most of us do not have to go to those extremes. What we need to do is be more aware of the resources that we are consuming, the energy that we are making use of, what effect it has on the earth as we know it, as well as the keeping in mind the future of the earth.
